Client: JR Simplot Company Project: Provide mechanical services for the $120 M construction of the Simplot Food Processing Plant in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Derksen Group Involvement:
General Contractors: Stuart Olsen, Fisher and Sons, and Simplot Scope:The Derksen Group was contracted through project partners to provide complete mechanical services for the new plant including all heating and cooling equipment as well as gas, steam and process ability piping. Total valued of this project is approx. $10 M. Work began in April 2002 and is expected to be completed in June of 2003. Challenge: Provided with a later start date than was originally anticipated, the Dersken Group has maintained an aggressive schedule to help see the project through to fruition by the original date of expected completion. Results: "The Derksen Group put in a good bid and we were impressed with presentation of the company. They've been very open and willing to work with us, and would recommend them to others because they have the knowledge to do the job. As project manager, Brad Mason has been a good, friendly and open person to work with. "With projects like these, there are a lot of challenges and you have to deal with someone who is flexible. They weren't the cheapest and our pick was quite personality based. They've proven they can do the job, with a very tight schedule, fast-tracked design requirement and a design build mentality. At the start of the job they were able to move the rooftop units from hanging inside to being mounted at roof level, which provided cost savings. The also put a lot of work and extra hours to get things up and running - showing they do what it takes to get the job done and demonstrating flexibility with respect to dealing with construction and cost issues on site. They are a good bunch of guys and easy to deal with. I would recommend them again, especially in a factory setting. |
